The story

Why it works the way it does.

A producer with one buyer has no price. That is the whole economics of smallholder agriculture and craft in most of the districts we work in.

Market Link invests in the dull infrastructure that creates an alternative: collective aggregation, grading to a standard a distant buyer will accept, and introductions to more than one purchaser.

It is a pilot and we are treating it as one. Early results are promising and two seasons is not enough to claim anything.

How it runs

The design decisions.

  1. 01Collective aggregation points run by producer groups
  2. 02Grading to a standard remote buyers accept
  3. 03At least two buyers introduced per product line
  4. 04Digital records a lender will accept
