The story

Why it works the way it does.

The countryside is full of handpumps that worked for eighteen months. Every Drop budgets for year three at the point of installation - a village committee, a ring-fenced maintenance fund and a paid caretaker.

Quarterly independent testing runs across every site. Where a source fails we publish the result and fix it, including when the source is one we installed.

Ninety-one per cent of sites are still functional at two years, against a sector norm far below that. The maintenance money is the entire reason.

How it runs

  2. 02Village water committee with signing authority
  3. 03Independent quarterly testing, published in full
  4. 04Filtration added where testing shows it is needed
